Western Kenya is in mourning following the passing of former Likuyani Member of Parliament Enock Kibunguchy, revered as a humble and visionary leader who dedicated his life to public service. Born on August 20, 1953, Kibunguchy passed away peacefully at an Eldoret hospital.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has paid tribute to Kibunguchy, lauding his commitment to serving the people and his transformative impact on the Likuyani and broader Lugari region. “Dr. Kibunguchy served his people with dedication and humility. He laid a strong foundation for development in the region, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations,” Barasa remarked, highlighting the enduring influence of Kibunguchy’s leadership.

Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Kibunguchy as a friend, elder, and mentor. “He was someone whose wisdom and counsel I greatly valued,” Nabwera said, noting that Kibunguchy’s demeanor was characterized by calmness, warmth, and thoughtfulness. “He listened more than he spoke, and his guidance was always rooted in wisdom, sincerity, and humility,” he added.

Nabwera emphasized Kibunguchy’s passion for education, a cornerstone of his vision for community empowerment. He believed knowledge was the greatest equalizer and took significant steps to make that belief a reality. “Thousands of learners continue to benefit from institutions he helped establish. Western Kenya has lost a towering yet gentle leader, and I have lost a friend whose wisdom I will dearly miss,” Nabwera reflected.

Kibunguchy began his political journey in 2003, stepping into the role of Lugari MP after the demise of the late Cyrus Jirongo. He later became the founding Member of Parliament for Likuyani following the constituency’s subdivision. His tenure saw him serve two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2017 and then from 2017 to 2022.

Throughout his career, Kibunguchy was known for his unwavering commitment to community service and development. His influence can still be felt in various projects and programs that continue to uplift the community he so dearly loved. As tributes pour in from various quarters, it’s clear that the void left by his passing will be deeply felt.
