Arati, Barasa, and Waiguru Recognized as Top Performing Governors in Recent Politrack Survey

Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa have emerged as the best-performing county leaders in Kenya, according to a recent survey by Politrack. Released on December 8, the survey reveals that both governors boast an impressive approval rating of 65% from their constituents.

This commendable rating is reflective of significant strides made during their tenure. Residents of Kisii County, for instance, are particularly pleased with Governor Arati’s administration, which has remarkably increased the county’s own-source revenue collection by 178%. This surge in revenue has been pivotal in providing more funds for various developmental projects across the region.

Under Arati’s leadership, Kisii Town is undergoing a transformative face-lift. The construction of modern bus parks, enhanced street lighting, well-designed walkways, and efficient drainage systems are all part of a concerted effort to decongest and modernize the county capital. These initiatives not only improve the town’s aesthetics but also bolster economic activities by providing better infrastructure for residents and visitors alike.

Another highlight of Governor Arati’s tenure is the introduction of the “Simba Arati Scholarship Fund,” which supports bright yet economically disadvantaged students. This initiative aims to empower the youth through education, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their academic pursuits. Moreover, Arati has been actively sponsoring local cultural events and promoting talents, thereby fostering youth development and community engagement.

On the other hand, Governor Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County has also made headlines for his impactful initiatives. He has significantly scaled up the “Kakamega Care” program, a universal health initiative providing affordable healthcare at an annual cost of KSh500 per household. This program has successfully served tens of thousands of residents, ensuring that essential health services are accessible to all.

<pAdditionally, the survey highlighted Barasa’s ambitious plans for the Kakamega County Industrial Park, established in collaboration with the National Government. This industrial hub aims to attract investments in manufacturing and agro-processing, positioning Kakamega as a competitive player in the regional economy. Barasa is also recognized for spearheading the construction of new modern markets, such as Kambi Somali and Ekhaya. These markets offer traders secure, hygienic, and organized business spaces, fostering a vibrant local economy.

Meanwhile, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has proudly claimed the title of the second-best performing governor, with a commendable approval rating of 63.2%. Waiguru has successfully established the Kirinyaga County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Kagio, creating an environment conducive to business and industry.

She has also played a crucial role in expanding the “Kicare” health insurance program, striving for near-universal coverage for households. This program provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services across all county facilities, addressing healthcare accessibility issues effectively.

Moreover, Waiguru’s commitment to digital governance has positioned Kirinyaga as a leader in e-government. The launch of the “My County” app—a one-stop digital platform offering over 100 services from business permits to project tracking—has significantly streamlined county operations and enhanced service delivery for residents.

Her administration’s focus on infrastructure development, particularly comprehensive road tarmacking initiatives, along with empowerment programs targeting women and youth, illustrates her multifaceted approach to governance. Waiguru is also keen on promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, particularly in the cultivation of rice and avocado, further contributing to the region’s economic growth.
