Western Kenya leaders are in mourning following the passing of former Likuyani Member of Parliament, Enock Kibunguchy. Regarded as a humble yet visionary leader, Kibunguchy devoted his life to public service and the betterment of his community. His legacy will continue to resonate with residents as they remember his contributions.

Born on August 20, 1953, Kibunguchy sadly passed away peacefully at an Eldoret hospital. His death has left a palpable void in the hearts of those he served and led throughout his political career.

Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa, expressed heartfelt sorrow over Kibunguchy’s passing, emphasizing his dedication and transformative leadership. “Dr. Kibunguchy served his people with dedication and humility. He laid a strong foundation for the development in the region, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations,” Barasa remarked. His words encapsulate the significant impact that Kibunguchy had on the community and the direction he set for future governance.

Similarly, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera shared his deep sadness, referring to Kibunguchy not only as a political figure but also as a friend, elder, and mentor. “His wisdom and counsel were invaluable to me,” Nabwera said, highlighting Kibunguchy’s calm demeanor and thoughtful nature. “Beyond politics, Dr. Kibunguchy was a warm and deeply thoughtful individual who listened more than he spoke. His guidance was always rooted in wisdom, sincerity, and humility,” Nabwera noted, offering a personal glimpse into the attributes that defined Kibunguchy’s character.

Education was a significant passion for Kibunguchy. He firmly believed that knowledge was the greatest equalizer, a conviction that he translated into action through the establishment and support of several schools in the region. Nabwera pointed out, “Thousands of learners continue to benefit from institutions he helped establish.” This commitment to education reflects Kibunguchy’s understanding of its pivotal role in empowering individuals and uplifting communities.

Kibunguchy began his parliamentary journey in 2003, taking the reins as Lugari MP after the late Cyrus Jirongo. His tenure as the founding Member of Parliament for Likuyani began following the constituency’s subdivision, serving two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2017 and again from 2017 to 2022. His political career not only marked personal milestones but also created pathways for numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of his constituents.
